ABSTRACT
The nanoemulgel drug delivery system is a formulation related intervention to improve the systemic delivery and therapeutic profile of lipophilic drugs. The fusion of two systems makes this formulation advantageous in several ways. Lipophilic drugs can be easily incorporated drugs can be enhanced in several folds due to finely distributed droplets of nanoemulsion phase. Ingredients of nanoemulgel are surfactants, cosurfactants, oils, thickening agents, preservatives, pH adjusters. Nanoemulgel improves the stability of a nanoemulsion formulation by lowering surface and interfacial tension, which increases the aqueous phase viscosity. Nanoemulgel enhances safety, efficacy and stability of active pharmaceutical ingredient. The focus on nanoemulgel has also increased due to its ability to achieve targeted delivery, ease of application, absence of first pass metabolism and safety profile.
