ABSTRACT

Mercaptoimidazoles have occupied a unique position in heterocyclic chemistry, andits derivatives have attracted considerable interests in recent years for their versatileproperties in chemistry and pharmacology. Mercaptoimidazole is nitrogen andSulphur containing heterocyclic ring which possesses biological and pharmaceuticalimportance. Thus, Mercaptoimidazole compounds have been an interesting sourcefor researchers for more than a century. There are several methods used for thesynthesis of Mercaptoimidazole-containing compounds, and also their variousstructure reactions offer enormous scope in the field of medicinal chemistry. Theimidazole derivatives possess extensive spectrum of biological activities such asantibacterial, antifungal, analgesic, and anti-HIV activities. This paper aims toreview the important biological activities of Mercaptoimidazole during the pastyears.
