METOCLOPRAMIDE HYDROCHLORIDE – INDUCED DYSTONIC REACTION IN LACTATION MOTHER: CASE REPORT

ABSTRACT
Background: Metoclopramide hydrochloride is most commonly used asantiemetic, prokinetic, dopamine antagonists and galactagogue. Dystonic reaction ismost commonly occurred by Metoclopramide hydrochloride. We reporting 20 yearsold women case of Dystonic reaction induced by Metoclopramide hydrochloridecase of 20 years. Case Presentation: A 20 years old women from bukkambudhiwith no documented medical history. Her local physician prescribed oral tabletMetoclopramide hydrochloride 10 mg 3 times a day for increasing milk production,she admitted to hospital with the symptoms of slurred speech and deviating angle ofmouth to left. diagnosed as a Metoclopramide induced dystonia. Advised todiscontinue Metoclopramide hydrochloride and treated in right away by givingantihistamine Pheniramine malate. After 4 days symptoms are resolved anddischarged. Conclusion: Metoclopramide hydrochloride can cause an unpredictabledystonia reaction. This can be life threatening and should be diagnosed early. Caremust be taken during prescribing of Metoclopramide hydrochloride in lactationmother.
