ABSTRACT
In order for the pharmacological action of a topical dermal drug product to occur, the drug must first be released from the vehicle to be available to penetrate the skinlayers and reach the site of action. Drug release is mainly dependent on thecharacteristics of the formulation. It is phynyl acitic acid derivative developed asanti-inflammatory agent. It has analgesic anti-inflammatory antipyretic like actionslike other NSAIDS. It is recommended in long term treatment of rheumatoidarthritis, osteoarthritis and ankylosing spondylitis. It is also useful acutemescuskelatal disorder post operative pain and dysmenorrhea. Diclofenacdiethylamine gel was developed in five different formulations (F1 to F5) byemploying different grades of polymers such as Crbopol 934and Crbopol940. Thegel was prepared and evaluated for pH, spreadability, consistency, homogeneity andviscosity. The carbopol is high molecular weight water soluble homo polymerwhich posses high viscosity in low concentrations, transparency, and film formingproperties these are useful for gel formation. The present study suggests that theDiclofenac diethylamine effectively act as in vitro anti-inflammatory activity. Finally the gel formulations found to be economical and may overcome the drawbacks associated with the drug during its absorption.
